When the Body Remembers: How Trauma Lives Within Us

There’s a quiet truth many of us carry without fully realising it:
Trauma doesn’t just live in the mind. It lives in the body.
Long after an experience has passed, the body continues to remember; holding patterns, tensions, emotional imprints, and protective responses that shape how we move through our daily lives.
And often, it does so silently.
The Hidden Ways Trauma Shows Up
You may not consciously think of yourself as “traumatised,” yet the body can still be responding to past experiences in subtle, persistent ways.
This can look like:
A tight chest in moments of pressure
A tendency to over-give or people-please
Feeling anxious without a clear reason
Difficulty resting or fully switching off
Emotional reactions that feel bigger than the moment warrants
A sense of being “on edge” or guarded, even when things are safe
These responses are not flaws in your character. They are intelligent adaptations, your body doing its best to protect you based on what it’s learned.
The challenge is that, over time, these patterns can begin to limit you.
They influence your relationships, your decisions, your sense of safety, your ability to receive, and even your capacity for joy, all without you consciously choosing it.
Why Talking Isn’t Always Enough
Traditional approaches often focus on understanding trauma through the mind. And while awareness is powerful, trauma is not only a story, it is a felt experience stored in the nervous system and energy body. You can understand something logically and still feel stuck in the same emotional loops.
This is why body-based and energetic approaches to healing can be so profound.
They work with the body, not against it.
They allow stored energy, emotion, and memory to move, release, and integrate in ways that words alone often cannot reach.
The Possibility of Release
Here is the part I want you to truly take in:
Trauma can be released.
Not managed. Not suppressed. Not endlessly analysed.
Released.
There are many pathways to this, breathwork, somatic practices, energy healing, movement, sound, and more. Each offers a doorway.
But every so often, you encounter something that goes beyond technique, something that works at a deeper, more profound level of transformation.
A Personal Truth After 40 Years of Healing Work
Having worked as an energy healer for over four decades, I have experienced and facilitated countless modalities.
I say this with both discernment and sincerity:
The most powerful trauma release I have ever experienced was during an All-Love Sekhem workshop led by Patrick Zeigler.
It wasn’t just healing. It was liberation.
Layers I hadn’t even realised I was carrying began to dissolve, not through force, but through a profound field of love, presence, and energetic alignment.
It shifted something fundamental within me.
And that is why I feel so strongly about sharing this work.
An Invitation to Experience This for Yourself
I am honoured to be hosting Patrick Zeigler in London for a deeply intimate All-Love Sekhem immersion:
16–19 May | London
This is not a large, impersonal event. It’s a rare opportunity to work closely within a powerful energetic container, guided by the original channel of this work.
If you have felt:
Called to deeper healing
Ready to release what no longer serves you
Curious about energy work that goes beyond the surface
Or simply aware that something within you is ready to shift
Then I encourage you to listen to that nudge.
You can explore the workshop here
If you feel the pull but need support, I’m offering a special student/subscriber discount, simply reach out either by email or WhatsApp: +44 7543 547774 (It's also possible to attend for part of the event.)
A Final Word
We are not meant to carry everything we’ve been through indefinitely.
The body holds on until it feels safe enough to let go.
And when you step into the right space - with the right support - that release can happen more gently, and more powerfully, than you might imagine.
If this resonates, trust it.
It may be your body recognising that it’s time.
Time to explore All-Love Sekhem.
